Mother Tongue(s) / 1st Language
| Level | Definition |

| True Mother Tongue | The language you used from birth with the people closest to you (usually your mother, father, siblings). |
| 1st Language | The primary language you have been using at a high level in your personal and professional space for at least a decade and you fully think in this language. |
| Native | The language you have been learning naturally because it is the official language spoken in the environment/country/location you have grown up in. |
| WEN | Well-educated Native Language: the language you have been fully educated in from elementary to university level and developed further in your professional life. |
For the majority of the population, True Mother Tongue, 1st Language, Native Language, and WEN will be the same. However, there are many cases where somebody has spoken one language at home from birth, lived in an environment that was native to another language, and been educated in yet another language.
Pick WEN for the absolute strongest language you have grown up with, 1st Language for a language that has become your strongest through education/work, Native for a language you feel totally comfortable with because you grew up in its environment but it is not necessarily your true mother tongue, nor your WEN or 1st. True Mother Tongue refers to the language you spoke at home from birth, but in some cases it may not be your strongest.
